Ayaka immediately blows another rare opportunity to shine in Natsuki's eyes @ 5:28-33: while earlier (5:05-18) Ayaka fails as a lover, in this scene, with Natsuki literally begging Ayaka for help (while symbolically crawling up Ayaka's body like a young child onto her mother), Ayaka now fails as a mother figure: instead of being knowledgeable & in control, she not only panics & tries to get someone else (Noribe) to take responsibility, she fails to protect Natsuki, letting her fall on her face.

Then, Ayaka 2) fails to be of any help to Natsuki with her illness: Ayaka is shown not only to be hopelessly impotent/helpless (she allows Natsuki to literally fall on her face [5:52-5:57]), but also to be panicky and ignorant (frightened and not knowing what to do, Ayaka screams: "NORIBE!--COME HELP ME!" [5:36-5:37]--she also screams in panic @ 5:27).

5:26-5:57: Though humorous on my first viewing, I subsequently found this scene to reveal Ayaka's "tragic plight", if you will: though she is in love with Natsuki, Ayaka is too afraid to come-out to Natsuki, let alone to openly ask her out.

And this scene reveals the immaturity and lack of self-confidence that causes Ayaka to forever lose Natsuki to Yamada-san:

Ayaka: 1) can't work up the courage to reveal her desires to Natsuki, even at a most propitious moment (5:05-5:18); 2) then fails
