BP took the cap off the oil gusher in the Gulf after a reported accident on June 23, 2010. According to an AP report, BP confirmed that it had replaced the cap by 7:30 EDT on the 23rd, and that oil collection had resumed. Yet, the live feed available on CNN showed that the cap was off at least by 12:40 AM on June 24, 2010, if not at an earlier time. Did BP have to take the cap off again during the evening of June 23rd? Was there a problem with the cap or its seating on the well? I watched about 6 attempts to place the cap on the well until 1:30 AM on the 24th. After placement, voluminous oil flowed from under the cap. I contacted 20 or so media outlets along the Gulf Coast, as well as the NY Times, after I took this video. On the 24th, I consulted a highly regarded engineer who opined that the cap looked crooked. He questioned whether this would affect the collection of oil. So, what's up with the cap? Is there a problem? If so, is BP going to fix it?

  • Why does the cap not lock onto the sea floor around the well?

  • @divinacomedias The cap sits on top of a pipe that comes out of the blowout preventer, which in turn is attached to the pipe coming out of the sea floor. If the blowout preventer came off, the flow rate would increase considerably. BP cited the worst case scenario as 100,000 barrels a day if the preventer were not on the well. So, they cut the pipe that comes out at the top of the preventer, and placed the cap on top of that cut pipe. They had cut the pipe - the riser - as it was twisted.

  • BP are murderous scum. You cannot expect honesty or integrity from those vile dogs.

    PHUCK BP !

  • hey Bro look at the latest attempt its all bullshit cover up...there are fuking fish swiming happily around the new cap for fuk sake everything is dead in a 20 to 30 mile radius they take us for fools...

  • This situation has been left to officials who have a contempt for evidence, created an epidemic of lawlessness and lied to the American people as-well-as compromised the sustainability of the Gulf region and beyond. We can no longer be only mere observers of this catastrophe, collective participation is required. This planet we share has been so generous to us, so kind, loving, so accepting – we are all welcome here. People will soon come to realize that 'Life' is one global unity movement!

  • @TraprockPeaceCtr Shame they are using that dispersant, making the pollution harder to detect and collect ... I don't really understand how this could be so complicated after all the experience that exists with blowouts. Also when BP talk of using mud to cement the well up, they don't mention the other materials that have to mixed with that mud for it to actually harden up in the well. Now they are drilling these relief wells, 2 of them, yet 5 were needed to finally succeed in another case.
