Bottom fishing gears damage vulnerable marine ecosystems in the high seas. The EU has already taken measures to protect deep sea corals and other vulnerable habitats in European waters in the Atlantic, off the west coast of Scotland, and in waters around the Canary, Azores and Madeira Islands, in the Mediterranean. However, EU fleets operate throughout the world's oceans. We are therefore proposing a precautionary approach to protect vulnerable habitats throughout the high seas.

What a propaganda. The EU has all but destroyed fishing stock in African waters and steals the livelyhood of African farmers. Why do you think those people are so desperate to escape Africa and come to Europe? The EU destroyed their means of life.

If only Norway and Iceland would join. Iceland has a decent fishing policy but both countries whaling is deplorable. I'm not some hippy who is saying this because they are intelligent or any of that. Its because it cruel. If cows were killed by stabbing them with a spear and setting of a firework in the wound people would be outraged.
