Mark Shepherd is Director of Music at Charterhouse School and it is a rare privilege to hear him as a performer.
The 5 manual organ at Hammerwood Park is intended to put the King of Instruments back into the concert repertoire. With the decline of organs and organists in churches, overtaken by drums and guitars, the decline of church choirs introducing organs to young people and the removal of organs from cinemas, the organ has lost the enthusiasm which former generations had for it. So organists are always welcome to perform at Hammerwood or to rehearse for major cathedral concerts elsewhere.
Mark is playing in Washington DC in July 2009 at the National Shrine. In observing him in both rehearsal and performance, in particular a certain relaxed fluidity characterises his playing. Only the most confident of players can possibly achieve such a rare and effortless aura.
Very well played - good to hear a recent performance on this monster electric! Keep them coming!

Hi! Hope you' ve heard Ben Scott performing on this beast - I have finally discovered how to add the high quality sound from the audio recording to the video, so the new YouTube videos are better. I might re-do this video if I can find the master files.
Interestingly at 1:40 on the Choir I can hear a sound I don't like from this instrument. A friend who is a pipe organ builder came for a day to help me with voicing and we tracked down the problem. So it's now sounding even much better!
