OPEN SPACE FIRE FOOTAGE IN THORNTON, March 31, 2011 -- 125th & Holly Ave.
Dramatic fire footage taken the afternoon of 3.31.11 at about 4pm. The small fire was just beginning to burn as I pulled up to pick up my 7th grade son from Shadow Ridge Middle School. It spread unbelievably fast through the brown open space brush; flames jumped to 20' tall at times -- with the school building due north of the fire by (est) 150 yards. No known cause, but it was right after school. School officials were getting get kids out of harms way.
The fire moved east at an amazing pace through the open space. Great concern for homes all over. The fire ran into Holly Ave and lost it's mojo, thankfully. If it would have jumped the street, many homes on the other side of Holly would have been in tremendous danger. I was praying it would die out and hoping fire trucks would get there ASAP. Police and fire dept acted quickly upon arrival. Fire died out and fire dept secured are and small remaining fires.
