Synopsis
For a nation that proudly declared it would leave no child behind, America continues to do so at alarming rates. Despite increased spending and politicians' promises, our buckling public—education system, once the best in the world, routinely forsakes the education of millions of children. Oscar®—winning filmmaker Davis Guggenheim (AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH) reminds us that education "statistics" have names: Anthony, Francisco, Bianca, Daisy, and Emily, whose stories make up the engrossing foundation of WAITING FOR "SUPERMAN." As he follows a handful of promising kids through a system that inhibits, rather than encourages, academic growth, Guggenheim undertakes an exhaustive review of public education, surveying "drop—out factories" and "academic sinkholes," methodically dissecting the system and its seemingly intractable problems. However, embracing the belief that good teachers make good schools, Guggenheim offers hope by exploring innovative approaches taken by education reformers and charter schools that have—in reshaping the culture—refused to leave their students behind.

@723Jacky Of course it must be the teacher's fault. It couldn't be the under-funding of the schools or over-burdening of the curriculum or lack of discipline or support from home. All nations/Governments should be judged on the importance they place on the education and care of children. Isn't a democratic society's government meant to represent the voice of the people? It's not the teachers taking the education of children lightly, it's the people of America.

How could something so important as educating children can be taken so lightly by teachers.Don't get comfortable & start worrying if the children are actually learning.TEACHERS you are at schools to teach the students, not to seat around, make a difference. If a person wants to become a teacher they should first have that passion to do so,don't go thru the whole process if at the end of the road when the real commitment should be present,it will be gone.Children are crying out Hlep!so Help them!

Writer James Michener once said, that the IQ of an average adult American was that of a 14 year old.

The cliches? Merely an observation of the videos you favorited on your profile.
After reading your comments, & wondering who would post these things - then rudely insult a well reasoned & respectfully presented opinion like that put forth by Jeffersonian as " idiocy (which) is'nt endurable" & resorting to cursing, I thought I'd present you with the simple unvarnished truth of what will most certainly occur during your lifetime due to the ideology you love. Wait & u will see.

@shurednichso
...your lifestyle will be affected even more than ours. We're falling over a cliff, but at least have natural resources, an amazing river transport system, & much larger, younger work force giving us potential for recovery from corrosion of socialism. Add military & naval hedgemony (which you'll lose benefit of)+2 weak neighbors;&compare to your geographic vulnerability &non-assilating fundamentalist pop. You'll soon see u have more than USA, Zionists & rich Jews to worry about

@shurednichso
Then what are you worrying about? Read your Engles & Chompsky, wait by the mailbox for your government checks to arrive, and rest easy knowing that your future is secure because your collectivised government is safely and wisely invested in Greek and Spanish Bonds.
One thing though, when the US govt experiences economic meltdown from the Euro-style New Deal, Great Society, "Affordable Housing" policies - & artificial low interest rate (=debt / no savings) they CAUSED..
