  • It IS perfect. Yes, think there will never be anyone of this caliber again. And he had such class. We're now in the 'hip hop' age and as a friend remarked, hip hop will be around a long time as it requires no talent.

  • @mvann5 Agreed! Original melodies ran out around 1980, Pop died in 1990 and Dance followed just after the turn of the Millennium. Hiphop and rap have been around for decades but have nothing to say to anyone outside of those who perform it and their acolytes. Having lived through the Fifties, Sixties, Seventies, Eighties and Nineties - I pity the young today...

  • @Melonhead622 There is a real lack of culture now,and what does that say about our society? Seem to be no great songwriters or lyricists or, as you say, new dance forms. There is just nothing beautiful or inspiring about hiphop and rap and actually they are often so in your face they're offensive. But they are the norm! Which is sad. Yeah would not want to be someone growing up now!

  • @mvann5 Absolutely. It's no fun being 59. Have to pee three times a night, etc. But there is one consolation - I LIVED through Trance, Eighties techno-Pop, Seventies Disco, Sixties Psychodelia, Sixties Beat and (just about) Fifties Rock 'N' Roll.

Not to mention some great Jazz and Blues.

    It's been a hell of a ride.

    Happy New Year!

    Mike.

  • @mvann5 ...make that psychEdelia!

  • @mvann5 Ouch~ Don't kno that i wud go so far as to make such a statement... but, since u did not me i must say "What?!?!?" No talent required? You said it, not me!

  • @cyndidalynn I only passed the comment ON - a FRIEND said it (really - not a friend as in "a friend of mine needs information about STDs" - a REAL person - but I forget who - anyway...)

  • Incredible! Compare this man to some of the singers and dancers of today. There is absolutely no contest. I'm glad the film industry developed in time to capture his amazing talent.

  • Interesting comments... one of which drew me back here (assuming I can post... since google took over have not been able to it seems). Anyhow, seeing the routines above, again, absolutely perfect, is really quite something.

  • @mvann5 It isn't all too bad growing up now... Because there is youtube that allows us to experience at least in some form the culture of the past. Personally I love the 60's 70's and 80's music anything after that lacked originality to do with the music... to the extent where the only way to be original is to turn up to awards shows dressed in meat... but yes I do not understand how artists like justin bieber are superstars...

  • @mvann5 As a hip hop artist who admires and dances along with Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Donald O' Connor, etc. I find your comment not only offensive, but rather ignorant and unfair

  • @mvann5 It appears to me, if you don't mind me saying, that you know very little about hip hop and rap. Hip hop dates bac to the 70's, and encompases a wide variety of musical styles including jazz, blues, and big band music. Its original form spoke about current social issues and problems in our society and how to deal with them through peace. It requires enormous talent to be able to craft rhymes, and even more to vocally deliver them.

  • WOW, JUST WOW

  • @baodonnell Fortunately, there are numerous TV shows devoted to finding up-and-coming singers and dancers. If you can put up with all the abusive-panel-of-judges and text-your-vote-now BS (which I can't), you have the opportunity to see a lot of really great singers and dancers without much searching. And with Youtube, you can search these different shows to see just the quality parts of them, without spending much time at all.

  • @mvann5 I don't know, I think there are great dancers, singers, lyricists, entertainers around today. The problem is, the film and music industries aren't interested in them, so we never get to see them or hear them, except by chance, or by a lot of time spent searching.

  • Every time I see Fred Astaire's work, I'm speechless. Even as a child, he mesmerized me with his talent. Unbelieveable perfection. Thank you for posting this. What a man. What a dancer. What a hard worker to get it right. Brilliant!
