@tawilk The derailleur keeps the chain from slipping off during extreme high and low gears. High torque in a certain gear can force a chain off which would cause a bit of time loss.

So much effort in designing and producing an extraordinary bike. And then the look of these stupid brakes, cables and derailleurs which hang on this bike as grandmothers clothes hangers. I say mr. fail did a good job here.

i might be new to the sport, but it looked like there was only 1 chainring (54t). if so, why have a front derailleur? wouldn't that just add more weight and wind resistance?

yes, u r right! The look doesn't affect the performance!
But it's still an ugly bike for me as far as design!
