No one is allowed to step on the island - but some poachers do. You can visit the environs, dive around the island and even fish there. Waters are blue all the time. The visibility for diving is greater than 20 - up to 25 meters. Another island nearby is Small Queimada. This one is a Sanctuary. No fishing and diving allowed. Penalty of prison.

Sure. What would you like to know?

Are there any snakes on the island?
balisong0199 2 years ago
Yes, there are many. The island is the home of an endemic species of ultra poisonous snake called jararaca ilhoa (jararaca islander) - it can kill anyone in a couple of minutes. The name of the island in Brazilian Portuguese is Queimada Grande that would stand for "big fire". That's what old sailors used to do there, setting fire around the bush to allow them step on the island.

Anyway, the most dangerous species is the human one; foreigner poachers are chasing the jararacas illegally. Surveillance by Brazilian Navy, penalty of prison.
