Charlie Pride - Kaw-Liga

Kaw-Liga

Kaw-Liga was a wooden Indian standin' by the door
He fell in love with an Indian maiden over in the antique store
Kaw-Liga well he just stood there and never let it show
So she could never answer yes or no

Chorus:
Poor ol' Kaw-Liga well he never got a kiss
Poor ol' Kaw-Liga he don't know what he missed
Is it any wonder that his face is red Kaw-Liga that poor ol' wooden head

He always wore his Sunday feathers and held a tomahawk
The maiden wore her beads and braids and hoped someday he'd talk
Kaw-Liga well he stood there as lonely as can be
Cause his heart was an ol' pine knotty tree

Repeat Chorus
And then one day a wealthy customer bought the Indian maid
He took her oh so far away but ol' Kaw-Liga stayed
Well he stood there and never let it show so she could never answer yes or no

Repeat Chorus

  • My mom claims when I was 5 years old, I would ask her to play this song over and over. One of my fondest memories was waiting for my dad to come back from driving a truck and listening to this song. I had no clue what it was saying because I was so young, but I totally loved it. <3

  • I think he has the BEST version

  • Such a great era in country music! Not a big country music guy(especially with today's music) But this is great!!

  • hmmmm

  • I'd only heard the Ronnie Milsap version of this .... but I guess the original is best LOL

  • @86Disel Actually, although, he was the most successful ever...he was not the first black country singer on record. That honor would go, I think, to Deford Bailey who performed on The Grand Ol' Opry stage from 1926 thru 1941 and was one of country musics first recording artists. There were a number more....Herb Jeffries (1st and only movie singing cowboy & recording artist, Ivory Joe Hunter, Linda Martell, plus others. The idea that "people of color"didn't care/ perform CM is untrue.

  • @HoleHeadedLiar Touche

  • Hank Williams was the original, however Charlie Pride and Hank Williams Jr both sang it again because they wanted to make their father proud :)

  • @scrambler250r Any string of comments is called a thread, Jackass.

  • Originally sung by Hank Williams.

  • i never knew he sang this who orginail did it

  • @namvet12 I did so, I heard it from my grandmother. I didn't say it was true. You sound ignorant calling this a thread, comments on youtube is not a forum.
