  • I was getting nothing except for the power LED coming on and the fan for 1 second then nothing.

I should mention that my fix only lasted about a month when the board behind the chip really overheated.

It may be due to the heat sink I used (penny) not being enough.

  • All laptops use thermal pads that way they malfunction after x amount of years.... I have an HP DV4 1225dx model. It's been known to malfunction after 3 or so years, right after your warrenty has expired. I took it apart right after I got it and put Artic silver 5 with a copper shimmy on the gpu and cpu. And I has out lasted all of the DV4 series that have not been modded... :)

  • i did this to a cq60 but i've baked the mobo in the oven for 8 min at aprox 200 celsius then i put a shim of 0.5 mm of aluminium between nvidia and heat sink and thermal pad of 2mm thik and a ceramic plate of 2mm on the other side of the mobo just to be in contact with the metal of the upper lid that sustain the keyboard.now temp is60 and it was 110 just watching youtube

  • fucking pavilion

  • If the chip is defective. Like the nvidia CEO said. You can't do nothing but not buy HP NO MORE ! :) is easy as that

  • I hope you put thermal grease between that fold in the copper lol.

  • where was there editing in the vid? :S

  • The same goes for the cpu, hope this helps too next time...

  • It should not be spread out, the way too apply thermal compound is by laying a little dot in the centre of the gpu, about 1,5 mm in diameter and then just place the cooler carefully ontop, the presure from the cooler ontop of the gpu is enuf too spread the thermal compound equally over the whole gpu. in that way you also make sure it is not becomeing a heat block between the gpu and the cooler, too say it like this, its better too apply too little than too much...

  • U are applying WAAY too much thermal compound,That way it will only block the heat transfer between the gpu and the cooler. How Thermal Compound works is createing a better bond between the gpu and the cooler by going down into all the microscopic "holes" that is on the gpu chip itself and make sure it transfers heat too the cooler, the way ur doing it is only makeing it worse,Now the thermal compound is acting like a semi cooler,Just makeing the bond between the cooler and the gpu less effective
