Southbound manifest train #321 pulls hard as it gets underway at McPherson, Georgia, milepost 113.4H of NS's Atlanta North District, at 10:18am on Sunday, August 31, 1997. Locomotives include SP B30-7 #7777, NS SD40-2 #6091, and DWP SD40 #5905. One has to wonder how these locomotives managed to stray so far off-line? This was one of only a handful of times I was ever fortunate enough to record a SP B30-7 leading a train and the ONLY time I ever recorded a Duluth, Winnipeg, and Pacific locomotive in operation. The signal bridge and signal mast in the background are now gone as this particular location is now part of an approximate ten-mile stretch of double-track.

  • Awesome catch!

  • @NS3210 Thanks Khalil!

  • That leading unit would have been a good poker hand. We used to play boxcar poker in the class yard - many a conductor lost $ and a watch or two ! Each track pulled was a hand dealt and each conductor in the panelboard shack called 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th car, etc, from the bottom and the car number was his hand. If a hand tied, the one with the fewest digits won....but cheating was not unknown. Boy, did we ever monitor those car #'s. You'd think we were clerks or something !

  • Good times!

  • Awesome video, Brian!

  • Many thanks Greg!
