@FitnessKid96 1. Define "insulin spike".
2. Brown rice is not micronutrient dense... at all.
-
@LiftingForLife Insulin is Highly anabolic, i know that. I never said insulin was a horrible thing, i said a SPIKE in Insulin can be non-beneficial. "White" Products have the bran layer removed, therefore removing several very important nutrients. Why miss up on those nutrients, and not just eat the nutrient dense brown rice? Thats all im saying
-
@FitnessKid96 Please go to wikipedia and read the entire article on insulin. It's apparent that you really have no idea what it does - it's actually extremely beneficial to hypertrophy.
-
@LiftingForLife No, im saying insulin spikes can prevent muscle growth. Eating foods that cause high insulin responses wont have any positive effects on your muscle growth, rather to Whole Grain foods, that have enriched vitamins and nutrients that can Encourage muscle growth.
-
@FitnessKid96 Insulin decreases muscle growth? Is this intended as a serious comment?
And no, there is no research to support your claims that brown rice is digested much slower than white rice.
-
@LiftingForLife Theres no good reason?! Studies have been shown though. Brown Rice to White Rice is the same as Whole Wheat bread to White Bread. Now, Your right when you say overall macronutrient intake is what essentially determines weight gain/loss. BUT, when cutting for example, White rice isnt the better option, because Growth Hormone & Insulin do not co-exist well. & since white rice spikes insulin more, your minimizing muscle growth. Thats how i see it though, its whatever
-
@FitnessKid96 There's no good reason to think that brown rice is "digested much slower" than white rice, and digestion rates don't matter anyway. Overall macronutrient intake dictates body composition.
-
Wait, are u saying that White Rice is really no worse/better than brown rice? Well as far as Macros goes, correct. But, Brown rice is digested much slower than White Rice, which doesnt trigger an insulin response as much, causing it to be more of an efficient "bodybuilding" food correct? But then again, i can tell your obviously not cutting, eating 400g carbs lol
