Rai is no rebel music. Musically it's worthless & text is vein/devoid of any human qualities. Basically it consists of endless swoons & moans about nothing. Its novelty was a primitive mode of singing met the sound of ultra modern instruments that used till then bendir (drum) and gasba (Algerian flute). The purpose of Remiti's singing, at best, was to encourage high consumsion of alcohol & sex for the benefit of establishments she worked in to fleece clients. How iconic could that be, not to me
