  • when you say 'petrosian cant win with piece play alone, he needs a pawn push', what do u mean by this? how does this help exactly?

i dont think im very strong positionally, so it might be a simple answer. but i dont really get what you mean. thanks and great commentary!

  • Well, if it is a fairly closed position, one way to play if to "organise" pawn pushes in order to open up the game to your favour. You can build up yourself based on pushing whichever pawn it is forward and, when it's favourable to you, do so and gain an advantage. That's basically it. Hope this helps!

  • amazing game so far,im excited to see the end...

  • Ha! "Another mistake by Botvinik". Poor old Mikhail. I would be curled up in a ball on the floor weeping, having lost the mental strength to do anything at all. I've never seen anything like this. Fischer, Kasparov or a computer are needed methinks.

  • Unbelievable. I've never studied Petrosian's games before. Such patience! The subtle accuracy is extraordinary. I think the fact that such a defensive, prophylactic style can be so elegant speaks volumes. I'm exhausted just watching it. Playing against the man must have been an incredible strain, like trying to run through a granite wall. Thanks muchly for posting, I do like your style.
