  • They are fine planes!

  • 29 sqn is the Typhoon Operational Conversion Unit (OCU).

    The Triple XXX symbols is supposed to have been created during th WW1 when a painter was directed to paint "Two X's and One X" [XXIX] 29 in roman numerals on the side of the aircraft.

    BTW: I was on 29 Sqn when they had Phantoms.

  • Not 3 Squadron, but 29 Squadron. You can see the white background of the tail shield and the white background of the triple X either side of the roundel.

  • This is 3-squadron. They have a habit of flying in trios, as per the squadron number.
