This is the official trailer for Hydorah, a freeware game (still in progress) that features lots of short and intense levels, unlockable weapons, secrets and a large library of enemies and bosses.

  • What's wrong with people saying this is a clone of Gradius. The only thing in common is the ship and some enemies. The weapon system is very different and so are boss mechanics and patterns. Sure it has elements of a lot of old classics, but it's a game on its own, and very good by the way.

  • I kinda like the "crappy" voice acting at the end...it sounds like that..."thing" is talking which makes it even cooler.

  • this game is great, but damn is it unforgiving.

  • @duinthadope420 Yeah, that's true.

  • @ARRTIKWolf I thought that aswell, but you improve over time. I never imagined I could beat Galactic Inferno, but in the end I beat the whole game. Just keep trying and trying, you will see that what you saw as impossible will turn into easy in a couple of weeks.

  • I really wish this game had difficulty settings, or at the very least a way to enable unlimited saving. It's a wonderful game and I really want to experience the whole thing, but I don't have the time to invest into becoming skilled enough to clear the whole thing. The penalties for death are way too frustrating, as well.

It's a good game, but nowhere near the level of great shmups like the R-Type series. I like how it does make a lot of references to old games but never copies them outright.

  • @TheTrevorBrady except that equip screen's Gradius III for sure

  • Had I not known better, I'd have thought this was a Sega CD game.

    I absolutely love it.

  • There is no doubt that this shmup is one of the most exciting game.

  • A great shoot'em up without doubts, an original homage to the 16bit era . Every single aspect of the game is well designed, the graphic is wonderfull and the sound track is amazing. One last thing, Hydorah is fucking hard and I love it ^^

  • @TheCat86 I think it's actually a good thing it's NOT a clone. Gradius's upgrade system was frustrating as hell, and I'm pleased to see that they haven't copied THAT.

  • @adoseofpain Alrighty.
