So this sort of told me nothing about the movie. And obviously it didn't end the franchise what with the new game and movie coming out. Is this a separate movie that came out after the GU movie?

@EnvyMizuhashi I'm not so sure about that. I own .hack//LINK's limited edition box set and though my knowledge of Japanese isn't perfect, I can still read the majority of what comes in the New Testament booklet. The booklet pretty much connects the events of .hack//LINK's story to all the previous stories AND the future two "projects," .hack//UNKNOWN and .hack//????. These are now known as Quantum and The Movie, but there is a lot more to them than just their own individual stories.

@Junosensei I've seen .hack//The Movie trailer. Maybe this is a sign, but I don't think the recent .hack// media serves as a segway to that game. They're like side-stories. LINK seemed more a like a "game for the fans" than a game relating to the actual lore. The party cast alone is proof of that. As good as Quantum was, there were a few hints of continuity, but it still had nothing to do with the lore.

@EnvyMizuhashi You may just get your wish. Not only did CC2 once to hire MMO experts once in the past, for their new building, but this new movie coming out is supposed to have some kind of PS3-related announcement. If the two are connected, then we may get our end-series game. It's possible that LINK, Quantum, and .hack//The Movie are all preparing everyone for this actual final game.
The only issue may be CC2's previous statement that LINK was the last game... but we'll see.

the last game for the original dotHack series is LINK. this is a teaser for the movie that's coming out soon based 4 years after LINK (for some reason, I don't think it's related to Quantum at all). however they might decide to make something related to dotHack in the future or maybe even a sequel series with a new story and new characters.
