Zakia Zaki

Zakia Zaki, 40, one of the most prominent afghan radio journalists (Radio Solh : Radio Peace) and mother of six children, was cowardly assassinated on June 6, 2007. This short video is a portrait of her made by the video team of NGO Aina (ainaworld.org), that supports freedom of press and media. Please spread this video so that more people become aware of her courageous struggle and the hardships endured by Afghan journalists.

Zakia Zaki's story is inspirational, powerful and, needless to say, painful. It shows us that women continue to operate under severe constrains in Afghanistan, despite the 'fall of the Taliban'. It also shows how women like Zakia are able to create change, however limited their space is.
