Good song! Goes back many years. Singer Tex Ritter recorded it, and he explained one time how the song, sung by American soldiers during the war with Mexico,the Mexican prisoners would hear the song, and what they remembered when they returned to Mexico, was "Greengo" the lilacs. Supposedly, this is when they started calling Americans "Greengos"
