If you're not in the Pacific time zone, you may have experienced difficulties when embedding Google Calendars into Google Sites. This video shows you how to overcome those difficulties using a gadget called Code Wrapper.

  • Andy,

Calendars you add from other people show up in a separate list below your own calendars. In the new calendar layout, that second list sometimes doesn't appear if you have a long list of your own calendars. Close the small monthly calendar, and close your list of calendars. Below that, you should find "Other Calendars" where the ones added by URL will be available.

  • Thanks so much for this! It really helped. The only problem now is that the code wrapper makes the calendar too wide for the rest of the site in order to see the entire calendar. Not a big deal now that the time zone problem has been fixed!

Have you done any videos for using registration links or "contact your instructor" links?

  • @divineah When you edit the calendar embed settings, choose a smaller height and width. Also, make sure the height and width match on the code wrapper settings.

Tell me what you're looking for along the lines of "contact your instructor."

  • There is a setting for Central time that needs to be selected. It is under the Global Settings for Sites (not for each calendar) where there is no default time zone selected. When I selected Central Time it solved my calendar time zone issue in Google Sites where my calendars were inserted.

  • @danielmoix - The embedded calendar timezone bug has now been fixed

  • @daniel your workaround doesn't solve the problem of the Site not being able to be changed to a local time zone. Countdown or time-related gadgets are going to show the incorrect time as well. How do you reset a Site to it's local time zone?

  • I added a cal via "add a url" this cal only shows up on a list when I add cal in sites. It does not show up in the cal list so I can't change it's setting. What do I do. P.S. I liked this instruction video it was clear, concise and well produced.

    Thanks

    Andy

  • The gadget is now called "Code Wrapper Corner Box" This worked for me! Many thanks

  • @danielmoix - it's not that Pacific Time zone is the only one allowed in calendars in embedded timezones, there is a bug which is being worked on by the engineers for which there is a workaround (goo.gl / lisDy). But this is another workaround which I was not aware of. Thanks for this.

  • @danielmoix Thanks! It is because I am matching the settings that the calendar is bigger than the rest of the column. If I make it smaller, the full calendar does not show, only a portion of it is visible.

I have since figured out how to edit the spreadsheet pages for "register here" and "contact your instructor" so right now I am good with that. My next step is to figure out how to add payment options from the site.
