Timeless song. I wore this tape out in 1994 while deployed to Bosnia and then 10 years later wore the CD out sitting in a hut in Afghanistan. It's now on my ipod. "He'd be gunned down cold by the CIA". This song is simple truth that "the human race is about to reap what it's sewn".

@sagan1976 - Ah... well said my friend. Most people - especially here in the West - are absolutely delusional when it comes to the reality of life in this world. The TV has desperately tried to convince us for decades that we're constantly "evolving" and "moving forward", but the reality is we just as brutal and bloodthirsty as we've ever been.
In fact, I'd argue that over time, we've become more callous and more warnongering than ever...
Such is (the Western "Democratic" way of) life...

@dinnadoit The worst isn't the fact that Matt is ahead of it's time but that we as a whole are devolving, not progressing. That's shocking. If you read Nicollò Machiavelli's "The Prince" you'll see that in 600 years nothing has really changed, at all.

When the album was released this was supposed to be the single. Due to the lyrics and the Salman Rusdie affair CBS decided to have the (much weaker IMHO) single be the "Beaten Generation"... Now... 20 something years on this and Sweet Bird of Truth still sound topical. To the point where my COD MW2 playing son thinks they may have been written for his game.
