Found some miniDV tapes from 2003 in my garage. Probably of little interest except to those who were in RCT-7 during the initial invasion of Iraq. This is part 1 of 3. It begins with the bombing of Iraq positions on Safwan Hill and continues through the first couple of days around Basra, Iraq.
I was there a couple of days later. While 3/4 and (I think) D. Co. Tanks hit downtown and pulled the statue down, I was with 1st Tanks main body, which cut up north through what was then Saddam City (now Sadr City).
After that,I did spend a little over a week sleeping on a humvee in the front yard of the Palestine Hotel in front of where the statue used to be. They called us up to division to deal with the thousands of reporters who were overrunning the place. Good times! (not really)

I was HQ Co./7th Marines, rolling with 1st Tank Bn., on an AAV from 3rd AABn. (Can't remember which company, but the guys were from Camp Pendleton, so it wasn't D Co., which was 29 Palms.) Might have been Bravo ... totally blanking.
After Baghdad, I actually holed up with 1/7 in Najaf for a while.

What was the grunt unit (or track unit, if you know) that you were with? I was hauling A 1/7 - but our AAVs didn't have the EAAK on.
