  • Those who do get bent out of shape by Duchamp don't have any joy in their hearts or the imagination to find the things that are, or could be art, that surround them all of the time. It might be wise for those folks to have a glass of wine or three, it also couldn't hurt for those folks to take an art history class or two.

  • I find the negative sentiment in this thread really absurd. You don't have to like his work, but the negativity towards him just bolsters his notions of the art world and uptight people in general, and reinforces the profundity of his impact on art & culture. The fact that people are negging it 100 years later is hilarious.

  • @ChristendomArcanum Uh, if you paid attention he was a young student when he made that. How many things have you made when you were 17 that anyone has bothered to regard as important? Not a personal attack, just saying, he's talented, it may not be your thing but this guy IS a genius. Duchamp, or R. Mutt as it were, at The Armory Show radically changed the art world. In fact he was attacking your very sentiment, and he won.

  • @beradification Some of his ideas were really dumb. But did anybody ever think of doing it before him or had the balls to do it. nope

  • @beradification He influenced people to forget about the pre-conceived values and ideas of art that people were taught from history and in schools. Duchamp actually knew how to really paint and draw, he just mostly decided not to. His ridiculous ideas were trying to get rid of the self-importance of art and yet he pretty much became self-important because of that. He had a sense of humor and even he did not take his stuff seriously.

  • It's all context.

  • @PAblkdog What did he influence people to do? Help me to 'get it'. I would never say that the Beatles were the best musicians even if he was comparable to them. Populism isn't the same as virtue or skill. The fact is in his own time he didn't produce anything of value to world culture. I wouldn't even put him in my top thousand most influential visual artists To answer that other person, I'm watching the video bcause I'm trying to figure out the facts about him, rather than just what is popular

  • @MrFreddy4 what he say ?

  • @MrFreddy4 hahaha fred who is it ? did he remove his comment?
