Now 33 months into the development of Platform Masters, this is what progress I currently have. This video shows each and every world I currently have done, what remains to be done, and current factors that are slowing progress down or stopping it.

Worlds 1 and 2 have frame rate problems due to too many draws per frame, fixable by redoing the ground decals and/or buildings. World 3 needs trees, the traffic redone, a variable-distance and narrower river, and the campground's test redone. World 4 needs a complete overhaul. World 5 only needs the far buildings, air taxis, and sailboats. World 6 needs a near-complete overhaul and especially trees. World 7 is 100% complete. World 8 only needs the reef and the cliff it's on redone as well as air taxis being included. World 9 has several changes needed. Adding in tables between the stands and extending the range of the food and barker stands out to and beyond the rides but before the roller coaster track. The roller coaster track may have 2 extra layers added and may have animated lights on it, likely near the bottom or even tracing the track if memory is available. The hotel needs lighting on the back side (the side facing away from the carnival). A simple road with cars with headlights is also likely along with air taxis hovering above. The area where the city is needs the ground lit in front. World 10 needs the 2 most distance layers of ground decals redone for their shaping but is otherwise 100% complete. World 11 barely has a start. World 12 has almost no progress as well as 13 (though 13 is a good chunk finished due to reusing the mountains from world 10). World 14 needs to be completely redone. World 15 has only the bare minimum requirements and will otherwise get more ice burgs more randomly scattered around with the ice shelf itself having a varied. World 16 is 100% complete. World 17 needs the foreground part and the distance shortened. World 18 is otherwise the same as 17 except Mars is in the background. Worlds 19 and 20 have almost no progress and the rest of the worlds won't be bothered with until the story is done.

The game play may be lacking. Once I redo the character's animation, I can add in enemies, the rest of the game objects, and provide full functionality for everything. I'm really only about 6 weeks away from beginning the most motivating part of all - making the game's 300+ levels. That 6 weeks starts once the character's animation is done. Right now, I could have the enemies added as well as the rest of the game objects. Providing full functionality for them cannot be done until the character's animation is redone. Why? Change the character's animation and collision detection changes with it.

The timer is one thing I love looking at every time I watch my PM videos for editing. That feature is, by far, my top favorite of all. The timer in each case simulates what difficulty 3 may be like (difficulty 4 for the later worlds since their levels are a bit bigger).

  • I really love your work ! I'm sure your game will be fantastic . Best wishes from France.

  • Once I get the scenery for every world 100% done (minus story stuff, and, for foreground elements, functionality), the game play aspects can begin.

  • Why do you say that?

  • Are you aware of any sidescroller with more detail put into the backgrounds than this one?

  • To date, the most advanced 2D side-scroller I've seen is Skullmonkeys. PM's complexity far exceeds even that game.
