That is right. The censorship exercised by Nintendo of America at the time is relatively well-documented nowadays. Fortunately Japanese titles translated by fans (such as Capcom's Sweet Home for FC/NES and the first Clock Tower for SFC/SNES) don't have this problem.

Yes, because Nintendo admits only a game for all age, it is censored in this way.
