Was on short trip in Buffalo and got WKBW.

One more thing... when you compare WKBW with the other ABC affiliates in Rochester and Syracuse, it puts it to even further shame... both WHAM and WSYR are in full high def and their entire newscast is something like you would see in a top-20 market.

That is my next trip in NY.. my local CBS and ABC in youngstown OH look better than WOIO in Cleveland. Eyewitness News is WKBW and so is Move Closer. But I could do a better job with the way they present newscasts on air....

Everything about this looks second-rate and blah.

Worst of all is the actual newscast open - the power-point rendered intro in 2008 looked better than this. (The talent shot at :53 is clearly a bad chroma-key job... at least, from what I could see from the badly pixelated shot). The L3s are puke-awful. Gannett did a better job with their L3s, and that's saying something.

Do they have NO computers at WKBW whatsoever? Or any with an OS beyond Microsoft 98? Simply terrible.

I did drove by 7 Broadcast Plaza. In the back parking lot they have 2 live trucks. all the others. The non live trucks still have "live local and late breaking" on them. WKBW Logo on side and front and other side still says "7 News". that talent shot is bad in living color. they need help..

this version of the open was changed to the HD version since. when i created it i felt it was a bit of a step up. created with 3ds max, After Effects. video was shot with a HD camera not shown here. HD version is uploaded on youtube. thanks for the feedback.

WKBW needs to use more cuts of MCTYW instead of just the one cut, also change the graphics, cancel AM Buffalo, and many other improvements the I can't really think of now!

WKBW needs to be WPVI, immediately. Change everything about WKBW, from personnel to on-air. EVERYTHING. Making WKBW into WPVI will give the station a very unique look from any other station in not only Buffalo, but other market. Also, some WABC input doesn't hurt. And mabye a little WNEP mixed in with music at time, but only sparingly.

They should use the correct tease bumper during the teases going into commercials instead of using the main theme for everything. It just sounds bad. They should do what WPVI does...WPVI uses the theme properly.

Somebody they CLEARLY saw the CBS O&O graphics and decided, "hey, we should do something like that!"

Sadly, they didn't bother to figure out how to recreate that sort of look.

@UpstateNYTV Want to REALLY shame WKBW? Look at KDVR Fox 31 Denver's new open ( watch?v=ri9yLYHyQu4 ) and cry. Easily the best news open of any sort, anywhere.

@UpstateNYTV That's in part because WPVI is always tweaking with the theme on their end (aside from the ill-fated orchestral rendition, they've excelled in that). And outside of the open, WPVI uses more contemporary cuts for breaking news, weather, etc, that are in line with (or inspired by) MCTYW.

WKBW is using a cut of MCTYW that was remastered in the late 80s. And that's it. Nothing else.
