Its safer to use an old credit card to scrape off the old thermal paste so you don't scratch the heatsink.

I am currently waiting for my 4th 360 to be sent to me. I think they are a fucking joke. The last one they sent back to me lasted 2 games of madden. Then the next day, yeah you got it the 3 little red lights. MFER!!!!

@Duckman2470 No problem dude your only trying to help. Its not your fault its his, he should have followed the steps.

Actually I just painted it myself and if you notice the DVD drive is on top of the 360 and a Fan controller to the left. This is because I added a CPU Fan directly in the GPU heatsink and rerouted power from stock fans to the fan controller. This allowed me to get another 7 months out of my xbox before it broke again.
Then i switched to the PS3 wich lasts on average 4-5 years before you have any problems.
Peace

I have had a PS3 for a year now however if i remember correctly the 1 red light was just a cable error, meaning your video cable either being damaged or not plugged in all the way.

Like i said its not for everyone. This is really not that hard to do but it does require someone to have a small skill level. In our case its clear you don't have this skill so i would recommend that YOU pay MS $100+ for a repair that will last just as long.
Then when it breaks again pay them another $100+ and repeat.
You may lack the skill to perform this fix But do you have the smarts to realize when your getting ripped off? Hmmm think about it.

Most Solder Melts at around 600f-700f. However under the circumstances we are trying to heat up a small area to at least 650f . We need to do this quick so we dont damage any other components laying close by. To help protect against damage we must keep moving the heat and when we do the temp starts to drop. it would take a long time to do this using only 700f of heat. This extended time would damage the main board. Thus a Higher temp with direct and shorter heat time on board.
this does not seem to work on my 1 light problem

@jibby54
Ya that's probably because this fix is for the 3 red lights.
