@Boerenfox. You may be right but I read somewhere that Count Wartenburg adopted the name Yorck in praise of the Duke of York the titular commander of the British army at that time?

@royaliste2000 It doesn t matter. L.v.B. composed this march for Yorck s Corps. This corps was part of the army fighting against Napoleon in the so called "Befreiungskriegen"in the german states. It is also the traditional march of the german guard bataillion and it must be played for the marching-in of the german ceremonial tattoo.

If i were Ludwig, i wouldnt have appreciate such comment. He composed MUSIC, not noise.. although as a military march, i like it.

Vorher ist der Name dieses Generals als Jark bekannt. Spaeter hat er es selbst zu Yorck mit einem englischen Geschmack verwandelt.

It is not the York's (= from York) but Yorck's.
It is named to General-Fieldmarshall Johann David Ludwig Count Yorck von Wartenburg (1759-1830).
