After 9/11 the whole world was in shock, and there was great sympathy for the US. If we had handled it correctly, we would have nurtured that support and had eyes and ears all over the world looking for bin Laden. But once we ignored the opinion of our allies their support became lukewarm. And once we invaded Iraq, it was easy for al Qaeda to make us look like we were equally evil.

Bush screwed our foreign policy because he's incapable of seeing issues from any point of view but his own.

Well, I like the song. And the Iraq war? We're lucky it turned out well. But... I'm not sure I agree with the uploader's interpretation. To me, Williams isn't arguing that the United States (or any empire, but I think particularly the United States) is some kind of obvious evil, even at its most imperialistic moments. I think her argument is that an empire has the capacity for great good, and that people will miss the order it enforces when it falls. But it also has the capacity for great evil.

And how can so many people be wrong? ... They can't be. Really, we elected bush twice and then obama, I'm terrified of the American electorate. By the way both our current wars had popular support at there out set. We are so screwed we have republican small government, in theory, and people taking care of themselves; or liberal big government controlling every aspect of our lives because they don't trust us to make the right decisions for our selves. I believe that Bush was bad and Obama has the potential to be anything, sadly its looking like he will be worse. Anyways, the points was that if you can't see the ability to freely criticize is a luxury of the system we have created, or inherited, could be destroyed by senseless criticism masquerading as fools patriotism. Look at Obama shutting down Gatmo so as to not compromise own laws and moral but blatantly disregarding our laws to screw secured bond holds of GM in favorer of the UAW.
