36knots w/ 5 adults on board and full tank of gas. (does ~40 withtout the extra weight)
WARNING: Avoid Volvo Penta!!
I will NOT buy another Volvo Penta after the problems with the current engine on the boat in this video.
It's just been one problem after another.
The first engine had too low oil pressure at delivery of the boat to me. It took them 2 months to find a new sensor for oil pressure, after which they realized it's not the sensor that is broken - the engine just does not have normal oil pressure (waaaay below standard pressures). So, at the end of the first summer I got a new engine...
The top speed also drops down to maybe 33 knots by end of season. Partially it's due to regular buildup of seaweed etc on the bottom as the boat is not used for long periods, but I'm kind of hoping it's partially because of the propeller problems experienced at the end of last summer where the entire boat kept shaking violently below 4000rpm due to some balance problem that I could not explain myself (maybe caused by small shells that built-up in the prop due to no use for over a month ... but removing them by hand did only make the vibrations a little smoother and did not entirely fix the problem) and am waiting to see whether they fixed it during winter maintenance...
The control panel for the digital screen part of the Volvo Penta RPM meter is also crap and barely worked after the first season. The button (volume button type thing with click feature to select) suddenly had no intermittent stops to feel when you select items on screen and the click feature only works when it feels like it. Also, the screen totally looses all contrast in temperatures above 20 degrees celcius.
The also sell it with 2 years of warranty (I only got 1 for some reason they have not been able to explain even though I was told it has 2 years of warranty).
i was there too

You'll have the same problems with the Mercruisers, blocks are GM or Ford for both brands.....The best sterndrive engine is made by Yamaha

It's just a luck that you got a bad engine from Volvo Penta, perhaps it wasn't installed correct (the user's problem) or something like that. Volvo Penta is a really good and big company, they really knows about how to build performance engines. I have two boats with Volvo Penta engines and they have worked perfectly for so many years, but I really "take care of them".
Im sad about it and hopes you have find a better engine!
