Have you enjoyed the sole of a fretless guitar sound?

Having discovered the liberation of fretless guitar music, I went in search of a convertible instrument (fretted to fretless). Imagine my surprise when I found there were none to be had. No one had made one yet.

Inspired by music and my technical background, I taught myself how to build guitars and one year later had crafted my first convertible bass guitar.

  • Very interesting ).

  • Cool idea. It didnt catch on in the 80s, I dont know about now...but prolly not, unfortunately...

  • no, it flips the frets down

  • Tapping can be done without frets.

It doesn't feel as easy though.

But it is do-able and worth it if you are searching for a specific sound.

  • Sounds like a film score by Morricone...

  • Perhaps you didn't notice the difference in the sounds he was producing? When he flipped the switch the first time, he went from fretless to fretted. The tones of a fretless instrument are much like that of a guitar played with a slide. The musician is not limited to the tones of the typical western scale. You can hear tones that are in between those of the western scale. When this musician switches to using frets, he plays some things that can only be achieved with frets--such as tapping.

  • Does the button raise a plateau under the strings so that it can resonate? I mad something like this for my acoustic guitar to give it a Sitar sound.

    NICE 5 STARS

  • That is nuts!

  • does that mean u use flat frets, or you are left with gaps in the fretboard when you push that slider thing?
