  • @cvernon1988 How did it go?

  • I am Having this done Tuesday for my Normule Pressure Hydrocephalus i am 23 years old i was wounding how long does this op take aprox

  • @JudyIsConfused

My hydrocephalus began after a bout of meningitis in 1993. Due to poor diagnostics it was misdiagnosed for many years. I just had shunt surgery recently at age 59. I spent 18 years of needless hell. Hydrocephalus causes a lot of other problems to develop. In the last years I could barely walk, using 2 canes. From my viewpoint it was like trying to live life on a tilt-o-whirl. I'm still recovering from the surgery. But it's a big improvement. Believe me, you want the shunt.

  • This treatment only works for non-communicating hydrocephalus.

A better solution for most cases of hydrocephalus is the Mexican process that uses a much thinner tube, thus eliminating the need for any sort of valve. Valves often fail and when they do it is an emergency requiring immediate surgery. So the valveless Mexican shunt is cheaper, less invasive, and less dangerous than the more traditional valved shunts as pictured in this video.

  • I have hydrocephalus, but not since I was born. It was discovered last month. Soon my shunt-Op will be explained. Is it true that this operation will not disturb me in my everyday life? I'm still afraid and do not know whether I want this operation.
