Several routes were closed in and around the Barrie area due to snowy, whiteout conditions that caused several multi-vehicle crashes Wednesday.
The Ontario Provincial Police closed Highway 400 in both directions between Highway 88 and Mapleview Drive after a pileup involving about 30 vehicles near Innisfil Beach Road just before 9 a.m. The highway reopened just after 12:30 p.m.
At its worst, about 60 vehicles, including two police vehicles, were involved in crashes on the closed stretch of Highway 400 during a two-hour period, police say.
However, OPP spokesman Const. Ken Upton says it's believed no one was seriously injured. Taken on March 2, 2011.
