Welcome to Queros Native Community!
The native community of Queros is located in the Manu Biosphere Reserve.
Through our life tourism programs, the visitors can experience contact, coexistence and learning from the community, as well as, enjoy good times in contact with nature.

The residents belong to the Wachiperi ethnic group of the linguistic family of Harakmbut.
The Wachiperi have lived in this area from ancient times, making business trades with the Incas, and establishing peaceful alliances with the Matsiguenga and the Amarakaeri that also live in the area.
Arround the 20th century, a religious christian mission, transmitted a smallpox epidemic to the Wachiperi that killed approximately 65% of the group, what somehow explains its small population. These days, the community population is about 40 persons.
The Queros settlement was legally recognized as native Community in the year 1990.It is located to the left side of the Queros river, approximately at 11km. at the south-east of the locality of Pilcopata, at two hours and a half walk, in a high jungle zone considered as humide subtropical wood with a warm and humide weather with temperatures between 22 and 38 celsius degrees with abundant rain precipitations between the months of november to march. The altitude is between 900 and 1000 m.a.s.l .The community land are of low productivity. Anyhow, the residents cultivate citric plants, pacae, avocado, sugar, chestnut, among others, obtaining high quality products but in small proportions.
Most of the houses preserve the typical building style, and are build with wood, palm leaf, using mostly elements from nature, that allow an internal environment more fresh specially in hot days.
