@Fatpete13 , funny comment, from a country not famous for its military courage. Were were the US soldiers in 1940, when Hitler crushed freedom and democracy in Europe ? Playing golf, I guess... And what were they doing, when the Canadians raided Dieppe ?

The only reason a country aids another is usually for political reasons rather than friendship.
In this case, France is crippled by Britain years earlier. A rebellion is a good pivot to even the balance of power.
Sadly, USA didn't "save" France either. We just helped take the fight to Germany wherever they were. And because taking France helped Russia take Germany even faster.
It is all there is to it.

true, but i think there is much more to show that french just CAN NOT win a war, or do anything worthwhile. but i agree that most americans arrant very clever either.
