Here we are in Bangkok, Thailand making the usual tourist rounds via Bangkok Mass Transit. Old and New world collide in a scattered sea of colorful buildings and glossy skyscrapers.
Shopping in Bangkok is an epic experience; a total bombardment of the senses. Here at Chatuchak Market your Baht changes hands to the incessant pulse of dance music and pop hits. The music in this section is derived from cut up snippets of generic Euro-Dance hooked with a Muse-esque guitar line, stomping kick, and an octave bassline done in post.
The bounty of goods on sale here is just unrelenting. I came across this beautiful painting of Thom Yorke fashioned in a style similar to Picasso's 'Blue Period.' Toothy crocodile skulls remind me this isn't sunny California. And good thing for that, because no where in California can you get your feet massaged by fish!
The opening clatter of cooking utensils sets up the shuffle groove as we scan for some street-eats. I sampled the end of some Brazilian Bossa-Nova at one of the markets. It glides in over the music like a horn section along with the sounds of a Bangkok traffic jam.
The music slowly fades as we journey down the Chao Phraya. Temples, hotels, and state buildings greet us at each bend of the river. We end up passing Wat Arum (The Temple of Dawn) at just about dawn. It's magnificent. Like an alien space ship awaiting take-off.
