    gas car without gas=stranded

P.S. To show you how stupid is the comment above.

  • Not quite! There are actually 2 electric motors. The Volt having a planetary gearbox, can have 2 independent power inputs. During the electric-only mode, the 2 electric motors power the wheels. During the gas-electric mode, the gas engine and one of the electric motors power the wheels while the other electric motor becomes the generator. Thus, the gas engine does provide partial power to the wheels. The gas engine runs on an Atkins cycle (crankshaft is offset) for efficiency. Nice work GM!!!

  • nissan leaf during power outage = stranded.....

  • @40markava The generator kicks in after the 40 mile range but if you put the car in sports mode, it provides an extra 20HP and generator kicks in at the same time to reduce the battery consumption, while charging the battery.

  • .... and what is the point of this car?

  • I thought it has a 40 mile range before generator kicks in. Or was it already at that because of test drives?

  • help....once the generator kicks in and starts making electricity, does that electricity go into the battery or to the electric drive motor or both? half the time I hear it only back chaarges the battery, the other times it powers the electric motor...
