The Tamils are a people with the right to self determination. They have a separate land, language, ethnic origin, religion, political believe and fear of the same adversaries. Further they perceive themselves as a separate group of people with a history of their own.

  • A request had been made to Pope to visit Sri Lanka to find the present situation personally. The appeals were forwarded by Australian, Brisbane, Rev.Father Bern Jordon and Dr.Brian Senaviratne.

  • They had appealed Pope 16th Benedict should witness personally the northern displaced people in the North of Sri Lanka due to war, and observe their living conditions. The conditions at the internment camps are not satisfying, hence there is no surprise Tamils intruding by boats to other countries to sought asylum was pointed out by the said two persons. Rev.Father Jordon informed, most number of Tamils is facing hardships as they have lost their houses.

  • General Sarath Fonseka, the Chief of Defence of the Sri Lanka Army on Thursday resigned from his post, informed sources in Colombo said.
