There are plenty of impressive sounds already on the beeper. Never heard the tunes in games like for example Dark Fusion, Agent X 2, Raw Recruit or Chronos? Look those up here (together with "Spectrum" in the search query) on YouTube. Also stuff made by Mr Beep, e.g. "Cosmic Escape"
The Spectrum was a fast machine for its time with the Z80 over the 6502 used in other machines. Its ashame that Sinclair did not include a decent graphics chip instead of the crappy ULA, and decent sound chip from the get-go.
