Yes, the idea was to pay respects rather than bring along the camera as if going to a sporting event. I was stunned at the crassness of the crowds for behaving in such a manner, but then, that's modern society for you: completely unaware of the social graces.

I remember news reports that people spontaneously broke into applause on the streets of Washington as the casket went by, but I never saw until this video.

I understand your reaction, but I think in all fairness, the casket was laid in state for days at the Capitol. People can't be blamed for wanting a picture of something so momentous.

they meant no harm and never tried to insult him like that. They just admired him and try to capture him in his last moments.
