A thing to note about this record, it's probably the sharpest, clearest rendering of a tune to be issued by Coxsone during this period.
A lot of people think the reason for the poor, murky sound quality of Jamaican and especially Studio One records in the 1960's was down to inadequate studio facilities i disagree. My theory is that the cutting engineers were at fault, especially the ones at WIRL who often just set the EQ at flat, the levels at low and then run them through thinking that the tunes will be blasted at high volume anyway so fidelity didn't matter. Federal were much better but then they had Graeme Goodall for a while. Going from the electronic medium of tape to the mechanical medium of a vinyl record is an artisan skill that the Kingston producers most likely didn't care about, they just wanted their tunes on the street asap.
