Our Emotiv EPOC EEG acquisition headset (www.emotiv.com) has finally arrived so I filmed the unboxing process.
We will be using this headset in the prototype of the brain-computer interface-based system for allowing physically challenged to perform basic daily tasks.

We are currently in the Top 60 team of the New Zealand Microsoft Imagine Cup with this project.

  • Dude, get a damn tripod for videoing things. Uggh.

  • @bullmeecham Noted. Unfortunately that's way down the procurement list at the moment.

  • Hey! no CD with software anywhere?! So how do you get the emoKey and mouse emulator software? Electronic Store?!!! Nouu..

  • @TheChanclasVerdes Yes, there's no physical CD in the box. You download the headset software (Control Panel, SDK) and applications from the emotiv.com. EmoKey and the Gyro Mouse Emulator comes with the Control Panel/SDK.

  • @29jaywalker As a standard EPOC supports detection of 4 different actions. However, people reported detecting 8 by running two instances of the application with different settings. The biggest challenge is training yourself to produce that many distinct thought patterns quickly (as required in an FPS) and reliably.

  • Could you map out all of the movements and actions of let's say... A modern fps like battlefield 3?

  • @TheRetchin Check emotiv.com for the up-tp-date pricing. SDK is not free but fairly easy to get started with.

  • @ducky102 Hi. Yes, we've pulled it offline for the time being. Feel free to browse other info about us.

  • @ThoughtWiredNZ how much was it? how easy is it to make independent software using an sdk? is the sdk open source, free, etc?

  • Your initial project proposal document isn't accessible.

  • @d0nrumata the contact solution-hydration fluid - that comes with the unit damages the contacts when you store the contacts in the case after use the contacts turn green - if this has not happen --it will in a few weeks

i found that surgical gel works and it does not make the contacts turn green -

using jewel cleaner is really not a good idea so you do not want to do that to often

it does however get the green corrosion off the contacts

  • @FSK1138 I thought it's not recommended to use any kind of brush because you might damage the contacts... How has that worked out for you? Thanks.

  • my pads are black felt - you can make new ones with a thick felt from a art store or fabric store - the contacts can be cleaned with jewel cleaner and a small soft brush - the contact liquid that comes with the unit actually damages the contacts over time - you should use a light oil lubricant or surgical gel and clean the unit right after use---

    cheers

  • @pepepaco20 What is the problem you are trying to solve? We have not needed a replacement yet so probably best to ask on the Emotiv forum, people there are very helpful.
