The traditional Venezuelan empanada dough made with ground corn, but now by modernity and ease, are usually made of precooked corn flour industrial origin which may be white or yellow (because of the yellowish-roasted by the annatto) salt and water. They form a half circle or crescent shape and its preparation is given for carrying out mass spheres are crushed by hand in a circular on plastic, on which put the filling, fold in half covering the filling and sealing it with a fork and then fry in hot oil.
In Venezuela is a difference between pie cornmeal and that of wheat flour or pastry. The former are properly called as empanadas, and the latter are recognized as cakes or biscuits, these being crescent shaped, circular or square.
Venezuelan Empanadas can be stuffed with almost any ingredient, from conventional fillings such as cheese, meat loaf (typical of the country, cooked and shredded beef), chicken stew, dogfish, pork, beans and cheese to more exotic blends of shellfish marine . It is made with a thin layer of dough fried in vegetable oil. The effect of vapor trapped in the dough, it inflates.
The empanadas are one of the main foods that are sold in coffee shops and bakeries of the country mainly in the morning for breakfast. Establishments to take the ferry and street markets are the most traditional places to sample the pies seasoned with guasacaca, mayonnaise and spicy local.

  • you dont need to squeeze out the edges , nor do you need to cut around the edge. you just flatten it round, put your filling, fold , and lightly press the edges.... also its best if you use a cotton cloth - wet it and wring out the water and lay it flat. work the dough on that surface. WAY better than plastic.

  • @DulceCaramela hi, hoe are you?... yes and you can put "anything in it" ..try chicken salad, ( with lil cubes of potatos, carots (zanahoria) , green pepper, onions, what ever u wants to, also NEVER FORGET TO put slices of avocado ( aguacate, palta ) on this chicken arepa. xD yummy!! ( ad mayonese to taste and a pich of honay dijon mustard) mixed with the chicken, awesome, ( not to make a paste) let some veggis and flesh ad texture.
