He's doing it wrong. Firstly, you should do it with your palm, not your knuckles, that way you can do it faster and hold down even more keys. Just check Jon Lord's playing, he's the best at these kind of things. Secondly, it doesn't sound "lame" when you hit just one key, many great organinsts do it that way, just listen to Tarkus from Keith Emerson, where he does it with his thumb with the percussion on, and it sounds awesome. Brian Auger also does it many times as well as many others.
