my old man fought against the German pilots over Germany in 1944...he had a lot of respect for them because they were very experienced and very good. So sad so many fine young men had to die in the airwar.

Both of my Grandfathers fought in the U.S. air force. My paternal Grandfather died when I was young but I had many conversations with my maternal Grandfather who related that the Luftwaffe were gentleman soldiers who followed the rules of war, not Nazi thugs. I am very proud of my Grandfathers service to the allied powers, but sometimes I wish they could have fought the ground war so that I would be desended from men who KILLED NAZIS!!! The only thing a NAZI ever did of any value was to die!

I have many friends with the same last names as some of these men. I am of 100% German Heritage, and I live in a mostly town in Indiana full of mostly decendants of Germans.
