WTAF-TV 29 Philadelphia sign-off 1986. Locally recorded VHS SP-mode. Unfortunately, you can see I moved the rotor antenna during the sign-off. Due to file size restrictions, the Star-Spangled Banner (which preceded this sign-off) is uploaded as a separate video.

  • stevefromPA2: The Community Update PSAs were backed by Chuck Mangione's "Chase the Clouds Away". There's a great studio version of it here on youtube.

  • do u have channel 29 community events promo it talked about current events in philly with some great sax jazz in the background...

  • What is name of that song in the background?

  • Taft was the owner of animation powerhouse Hanna-Barbera from 1967 to 1987 and is now in the hands of Time Warner.

  • Look so different without the liberty place. But yet again I was too young to notice it

  • I missed this station for years. When TNT(Turner Network Television was launched on October 1,1988,we lost WTAF(WTXF then) from our cable channel line-up.

  • WBRC was later swapped to Raycom Media in exchange for WTVR in Richmond, after Raycom bought WWBT in that market.

  • Meanwhile, WTXF was one of several former Taft stations owned by FOX. It was joined by: KSAZ/Phoenix, WDAF/Kansas City, WBRC/Birmingham, and WGHP/Pidemont Triad.

Viacom traded KTXH and WDCA (both of which coincidentally broadcast on channel 20) to FOX in 2001, in exchange for KBHK/Bay Area (bought by FOX when they acquired Chris-Craft's stations).

In 2007, FOX sold 8 O&Os to Local TV. WBRC, WGHP, and WDAF were among the stations sold.

  • WT(A/X)F is one of many former Taft stations to be later owned by either TVX (or its successors Paramount Stations Group, Viacom Television Stations Group, and CBS Television Stations Group) or FOX (in WTXF's case, it was owned by TVX, Paramount, and FOX).

At the turn of the new millennium, Viacom still owned four former Taft TV stations: WFOR/Miami (formerly WCIX, acquired by Viacom through its merger with CBS), WDCA/Washington DC, KTXH/Houston, and KTXA/Metroplex.

  • Hey Parkerlewisrocks, that segment that you're talking about was called "The Fox 29 Community Update". I've been looking for that myself, no one seems to have it.
