A Small Native Gold Nugget as found by the Minelab GPX-4500 last weekend. Location: NSW, Australia. A Garrett Pro-Pointer (Pulse-Induction pinpointer) was used to pinpoint the nugget in the soil after it was knocked out of an open mulloch heap. The debris was stacked there by miners in the 1870s who were extracting a reef of gold in quartz and a wombat has recently dug out the soil beneath it. Part of this face has collapsed and exposed the interior of the mound. Rena is shown holding the detector at the beginning of the short clip.

The nugget weighed just shy of 4 grams. I had intended to use a Monoloop Coil this day but had mounted my spare rod upside down and was unable to remove the nylon bolt in order to turn it around. I therefore had to use the stock Double-D coil instead... which was fine. It's a little mineralized where I was so the Double-D was a quieter coil for the region.

YouTube really screws up the video quality by compressing it to abominable resolutions. Do yourself a favor and watch it in High Resolution (HQ)

Yes it is for this area with the settings I had active. The detector had the Iron Discrimination cranked to Max which means less depth. Enhance was also on, which reduces depth as well. I was also operating near power lines. That all adds up. A lot of other detectorists have been over this spot and missed the gold there.

I'll use a Mono without all the desensitizing for the next vid.

  • why do you show a etrex at the end of your vid reason i as is i have that same one does it have something to do with finding gold or something in the ground i am new to all of this so i was just wondering?

  • Xenue125, I took that picture at the end of my trip to email a picture of the Garmin ETrex to someone. Since this nugget ended up in the gold display containers that the Etrex was photographed against, it seemed okay to insert the image into the video. The use of a GPS (not to be confused with the GPX) has no bearing (pun not intended) on the ability to find gold.

  • Did the old timers wear gloves like that?

  • does the Minelab GPX 4500 detects gold and nothing else? no iron trash?

  • that sounds like some alien shit.

  • Awesome find, man! I have the White's GMT, and those darn hot rocks make it so I have to lower the gain to a ridiculous level. I have steady thresh hold and ground balance, but in those trashy areas and harsh ground conditions, it's frustrating! I'm getting 5-6 inches of depth at best on factory suggested settings. Any ideas? They make a smaller coil and a larger coil. Which do you think might be better? Nice nugget, and incredible detector you have there!

  • Nice find. I was using a goldmaster 2 today, and that thing is tough to get balanced.

Found some bullet casings about 8 inches down.

    Good job sir! :)

  • nice find mate...
