Mumia Abu-Jamal -- Who We Are?

Another truth about who 'we' are? We are racist.

That's the America that emerges from the glorious army of the republic; which is often touted as the greatest exemplar of racial peace and harmony in the nation.

It doesn't matter that perhaps a third of that army is African-American or Hispanic, or that perhaps 15% of US Army personnel are female. If we have learned anything, it is that ideas, ways of looking at the world, cross racial, linguistic, and gender barriers. Members of institutions adopt ways of looking at those deemed Others.

Today, after September 11th, Arabs and Muslims are Others.

Therefore, the horrific racist, depraved, and humiliating treatment of those in Abu Ghraib. They are Other; Else, less than ... and therefore, subjected to treatment that can only be deemed barbarous.

Abu Ghraib is *us*.

what I think really doesn't matter because hes behind bars and that is despite well organized groups trying to free him.

What I would like to know is... if someone told you that on this planet objects will fall to the ground unless supported by other objects would you first need to know if that individual was a physicist? From wild dog to man, when pushed long enough and hard enough anything capable of fighting back eventually will. Unless the person asking "why?" violence happens is willing to admit that they too are violent when pushed, the question becomes meaningless.

Allot of groups and people perceiving themselves to be "In Power" want cowards around them because cowards are easy to control; when instead they find a "thug" all of a sudden they ask why?
