PIN .... collective is a group of artists from the NY metro area, R.I., San Francisco and France who collaborate on pranks, performances, installations and audio/visual compositions. Our groups name PIN - changes according to the project we are involved in - for example, as a prank PIN stands as an acronym for Pranks Involving Nothing. We chose the logo (4 dots) to directly reference the security feature as a disguise when we perform our pranks and involve new media technology & digital processing in out work, but the four dot symbol also stands for the commonly used .... ; meaning - "and so on", leaving it open for us to choose whatever format that seems most suitable for communicating our concepts. This particular video is a prank we performed on Jan. 18, 2007 at a Citibank ATM lobby on 16th St. & 8th Ave. in NYC. It involved collecting discarded ATM receipts stamping them with our logo and making them into paper airplanes. We then installed the airplanes on the countertops and placed posters around the lobby with instructions on how to make your own paper airplane out of your ATM receipt and add it to our installation. The prank ends when the banks cleaning crew comes into the lobby and throws away all the airplanes while hamming it up for the video camera. The original documentary footage of this prank was then recreated to involve colorization, collage, repetition and a remixed sountrack using the original ambient background noise and ATM beeps that were recorded.
